Tom Wilson, Sr. & Jr.
Tom Wilson, Sr.'s comic creation "Ziggy"
Downtrodden-but-always-hopeful cartoon character "Ziggy" was the creation of Tom Wilson, Sr. (1931-2011), who drew the iconic strip from 1971 to 1987.  The wildly popular character spawned a line of merchandise and garnered bestselling book and calendar features, as well as an Emmy award for a 1982 Christmas special.  When the senior Wilson retired, he turned the strip over to his son, Tom Wilson, Jr., who had worked previously as a Ziggy assistant for many years. The one-panel cartoon still appears in more than 500 daily and Sunday newspapers.
