Superstar singer/actress/fashion designer Beyoncé Knowles lept to stardom as lead singer for Destiny's Child (“Bootylicious"), which was managed by her dad, Matthew Knowles. She then launched a solo career with hits like "Crazy in Love" and "Irreplaceable." In 2002, she made the jump to the big screen as "Foxxy Cleopatra" in Austin Powers in Goldmember. Her younger sister Solange Knowles was a backup singer for Destiny's Child. In 2008, Solange had her first solo hit with “Sandcastle Disco.” That same year, the celebrity siblings launched a joint handbag collection called Thavasa. Solange also helped launch Deréon, the junior apparel sister line to House of Deréon, a fashion line created by Beyoncé and their mother, Tina Knowles.

Another member of Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland, also signed with Matthew Knowles in her attempt at a solo singing career. But in early 2009, she ended her management agreement with Matthew just before she was dropped by Columbia Records. Around the same time, Solange was dropped by Geffen/Interscope Records, leaving father/manager Matthew unable to duplicate his success with Beyoncé.
