's son Terry Melcher
was a member of The Rip Chords, best known for their 1964 #4 hit "Hey Little Cobra." Terry formed the group with Bruce Johnston, who later joined The Beach Boys. Terry became a prolific record producer for The Beach Boys and others, most notably The Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn, Turn, Turn." He co-wrote The Beach Boys' final hit, 1988's #1 "Kokomo," and produced the accompanying album. He died of melanoma in 2004 at the age of 53.
