Sixties child actress Hayley Mills, best known for her starring roles in The Parent Trap and Pollyanna and for playing "Peter Pan" on Broadway, is the daughter of famed British director/actor Sir John Mills. According to Parade magazine, Hayley's career started when director J. Lee Thompson came to the Mills home to discuss the film Tiger Bay, in which her father was set to star. Thompson had been unable to find the right 12-year-old boy for the film, and when he saw Hayley playing in the yard, he offered her a screen test, then changed the character to a girl. The elder Mills made dozens of films in the 1940s and 1950s and won an Oscar for 1970's Ryan's Daughter. He lived to be 97, passing away in 2005. Hayley is also the sister of actress Juliet Mills, star of the film Nanny and the Professor.
