Star of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Mariska Hargitay is the daughter of screen legend Jayne Mansfield. Her father was Hungarian-born bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, who held the titles of Mr. World and Mr. Universe. Mickey and Jayne appeared together in 1957's Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, 1960's The Loves of Hercules, 1963's Promises! Promises!, and 1964's Primitive Love. Following in her father's fitness footsteps, Mariska released a series of exercise tapes in the 1990s. Mickey appeared in one episode of Law & Order: SVU in 2003. He died in 2006. Mariska and her brother, actor Zoltan Hargitay, appeared together in the 1988 film Mr. Universe, which starred their father. Their brother Mickey Hargitay, Jr. appeared as a baby in his mother's 1962 film It Happened in Athens and the 1968 documentary film The Wild, Wild World of Jayne Mansfield.
Mariska and her brothers were in the car with their mother in 1967 when they collided with the back of a truck on a two-way road. Jayne (who was then divorced from Mickey), her boyfriend, and the car driver were all killed instantly. Mariska and her siblings were miraculously unharmed.
In January 2009, it was announced that Mariska had suffered a partially-collapsed lung, though it was not made clear how the injury occured. However, her handlers stressed her commitment to appearing in all remaining episodes of her hit TV show, on which she plays "Detective Olivia Benson."
