William Randolph Hearst, publishing magnate (the Hearst Corporation) and son of self-made mining millionaire George Hearst, was the grandfather of Patty Hearst. Patty made national headlines after being allegedly kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army, an extremist group. Not long after her abduction, Patty was seen on film helping her would-be captors rob banks. Her subsequent prison sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter and then fully pardoned by President Bill Clinton in 2001. She has since had several bit acting roles in films and TV shows. Patty's daughter, Lydia Hearst, is a socialite, model, and actress. She had a bit part in the critically-acclaimed 2008 film Frost, as well as a small role on an episode of the hit show Gossip Girl that same year. Lydia's cousin (and Patty's niece), Amanda Hearst, is also a socialite and model. William's wife (Patty's grandmother, Lydia and Amanda's great-grandmother), Millicent Hearst, was a vaudeville performer who later became a prominent philanthropist and socialite. Throughout much of Millicent and William's marriage, William carried on a not-so-secret affair with 1920s-1930s film star Marion Davies. The couple's lavish social scene and lifestyle was highly publicized, and Marion became more known for her affair than for her film career.
