June Havoc
Actress June Havoc (1945's Brewster's Millions, "Madeline Markham" on General Hospital), whose career spanned from 1918 to 1990, was the younger sister of actress/ burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee (1958's Screaming Mimi, 1963's The Stripper), whose career spanned from 1937 to 1969. Gypsy made her film debut in 1937's Ali Baba Goes to Town. Her 1957 memoir (written as a memorial to her "stage" mother), was developed into the stage musical and film Gypsy (1962). The musical implies that "Mama Rose," the character based on June and Gypsy Rose's mother, always really wanted to be the star herself, rather than her daughters, whom she pushed into show business when they were children. The musical has frequently been revived, and "Mama Rose" has been played by stars such as Bette Midler, Angela Lansbury, and Betty Buckley.
