Janet Jackson

International pop singer Michael Jackson, is the "star" of one of the most famous Hollywood families. Michael, known as the "King of Pop," is the brother of  Rebbie Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, singer/reality TV star La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson and fellow pop superstar Janet Jackson. Before she became a world-famous songstress, Janet played "Penny" on the 1970s hit series Good Times. Among other small roles, Janet appeared on the 1980s series Diff'rent Strokes and co-starred in 2000's Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. Along with his brothers Marlon, Jackie, Tito and Jermaine, Michael hit the music scene as the front man of "The Jackson 5" in 1966. In 1976, the group left Motown for CBS and were forced to change their name from "The Jackson 5" to "The Jacksons." They also replaced Jermaine (who remained with Motown) with their brother Randy. Jermaine's first wife was Hazel Gordy, the daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy. After Michael left the group, The Jacksons were dropped from their record label in 1989. Although they have since been virtually inactive, the group has not ever officially broken up, and all six brothers performed together at two tribute concerts for Michael in 2001. The oldest (and least well-known) Jackson sibling, Rebbie, performed on the 1995 Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home movie soundtrack. The parents of the Jacksons are Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson. Joe was the group's longtime manager. He has acted in two films; 2002's Diamonds from the Bantus and 2009's Destination Fame. In 2002, Joe was awarded a proclamation in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the Best Entertainment Manager of All Time. The family's rise to fame (and subsequent problems) were portrayed in the 1992 TV movie The Jacksons: An American Dream. Jermaine's son, Jermaine Jackson II (grandson of Berry), played the younger version of his father in the film. The younger Jermaine also appeared as a dancer four years earlier in 1988's Moonwalker, which starred Michael. The elder Jermaine is also the uncle of actress Lark Voorhies, best known as "Lisa Turtle" from the 1989-1993 hit series Saved By the Bell. Randy's daughter, Stevanna Jackson, is a member of the Disney Channel Movie Surfers, and appeared in two 2005 episodes of the series Zoey 101. Michael's short-lived, seemingly odd marriage to Elvis Presley's daughter, singer Lisa Marie Presley, lasted for two years and was subjected to much public scrutiny during its entirety. The Jackson 5 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Michael was then additionally inducted as a solo artist in 2001.

Michael died on June 25, 2009 from cardiac arrest apparently spurred by excess pain medications. The singer's tragic death came right as he was about to embark on a highly-anticipated "comeback" tour. Jackson was 50 years old. Jackson purposefully left his father Joe out of his will, having long ago been estranged because of Michael's allegations of child abuse. By the fall of 2009, however, the elder Jackson was angling for an "allowance" from his son's estate, suggesting that Papa Joe must be estranged from all his other money-making children, as well.
