Academy Award-winning George Stevens, Sr. (1951's A Place in the Sun, 1956's Giant) is regarded as one of the great American filmmakers. He is the son of late character actor Landers Stevens, who had bit parts in over 99 films from 1920 to 1941. Jack Stevens, son of Landers and brother of George, was a cinematographer throughout the 1920s and '30s. George also directed 1959's The Diary of Anne Frank, while his son, George Stevens, Jr., associate produced. The younger Geroge wrote and directed the Golden Globe-nominated TV movie Separate But Equal (1991), starring Sidney Poitier, and was a founding director of the American Film Institute. His son, Michael Stevens, associate produced 1998's The Thin Red Line.
