Legendary Academy Award-winning actor Sidney Poitier (Lillies of the Field, To Sir, With Love, In The Heat of the Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner) is the younger brother of actor Cyril Poitier (1968's Savages from Hell). Cyril appeared in the 1974 film Uptown Saturday Night, which was directed by and starred Sidney. He also appeared in Sidney's film Let's Do It Again (1975) and A Piece of the Action (1977).
Sidney is also the father of four children from two marriages. Sidney's second wife, actress Joanna Shimkus (1968's Boom!, 1975's A Time for Loving), is the mother of his daughters Anika Poitier and Sydney Tamiia Poitier. Sidney and Joanna starred together in 1969's The Lost Man.
Their daughter Sydney Tamiia Poitier played "Carrie Rivai" on TV's Knight Rider. Sydney has also had recurring roles on series like Veronica Mars and Joan of Arcadia and several small parts in films.
Anika Poitier (2001's Swordfish) wrote and directed the 2010 short film Yard Sale, starring her mother.
Sidney's daughters from his first marriage are Beverly Poitier-Henderson, Pamela Poitier, and Sherri Poitier.
Beverly worked in the casting department for his TV movie Separate But Equal (1991).
Pamela is an actress whose credits include Stir Crazy (1980) and Ghost Dad (1990) which her father directed, as well as The Jackal (1997), which her father starred in. Pamela also worked as a dance assistant for 1985's Fast Forward, directed by Sidney.
Sherri appeared with her father and uncle in A Piece of the Action.
