Actor Colin Hanks, star of sci-fi series Roswell on The WB and 2002's Orange County, is the son of none other than actor Tom Hanks and first wife Samantha Lewes, who died of bone cancer in 2002 at the age of 49. She appeared in a 1981 episode of Tom's show Bosom Buddies. Colin's first on-screen appearance was a small part in his father's movie, That Thing You Do. Tom and Colin appeared together as father and son in 2009's The Great Howard Buck.
We'll be polite enough not to mention that his uncle, Jim Hanks, who looks very much like brother Tom, starred in the straight-to-video Buford's Beach Bunnies. Jim often substitutes for Tom in the role of "Woody" in various Toy Story video games and spin-offs. Jim was also Tom's running double in Forrest Gump and did stunts for Tom's 2011 film Larry Crowne.
Tom met second wife Rita Wilson when she appeared on an episode of Bosom Buddies in 1981, but the two did not marry until 1988, a year after Tom and Samantha divorced. They have appeared together in films such as 1985's Volunteers, 1990's The Bonfire of the Vanities, Sleepless in Seattle, That Thing You Do!, and Larry Crowne.
Tom's daughter and Rita's step-daughter Elizabeth Hanks had non-speaking roles in her father's films That Thing You Do! and Forrest Gump.
Tom and Rita's son Chet Hanks (2007's Bratz) is an actor who appeared as "Pizza Delivery Boy" in Larry Crowne.
Rita's brother, Chris Wilson, is a composer (My Big Fat Greek Wedding).
Rita's niece, Carly Reeves, appeared with her in the 2004 film Raise Your Voice. She appeared in Tom's 2007 film Charlie Wilson's War, and with both Tom and Rita in Larry Crowne.
