Oscar-nominated writer/director/producer Jason Reitman (2005's Thank You for Smoking, 2007's Juno, 2011's Young Adult) is the son of Oscar-nominated writer/director/producer Ivan Reitman and actress/director Genevieve Robert (1970's Red the Half Breed, 1974's Lovers of Devil's Island). Genevieve appeared in the 1993 film Dave, which Ivan directed. Ivan's long list of famous films includes Ghostbusters (1984), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Beethoven (1992), Space Jam (1996), Private Parts (1997) and Old School (2003).

Jason got his start working as a production assistant and appearing in small roles in a number of his father's films, beginning with 1988's Twins. Father and son teamed up on the 2009 film Up in the Air, which Ivan produced and Jason directed.

Jason's daughter with ex-wife Michele Lee, Josephine Reitman, was an extra in her father's film Juno. Jason and Michele co-wrote the 2004 short film Consent. In 2002, Michele starred in Jason's short film Uncle Sam, and also had a small part in her then-husband's film Up in the Air.

Jason's sister Catherine Reitman (2009's Post Grad, 2010's How to Make Love to a Woman) has had parts in her father's films Dave, Twins, Ghostbusters II, Kindergarten Cop, Beethoven's 2nd, Space Jam, and Fathers' Day (1997). She has also appeared in her brother's films Thank You for Smoking, My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), and I Love You, Man (2009).
