Manic comics The Marx Brothers--Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, Gummo Marx, and Zeppo Marx--are the nephews of a member of one of the biggest comic duos of Vaudeville.
Their parents were Minnie Marx and Sam Marx, who had a small part in his sons' film Monkey Business (1931). Al Schoenberg was Minnie's brother. Under the stage name Al Shean, he was part of the duo Gallagher & Shean, along with Ed Gallagher. Their theme song, "Mr. Gallagher & Mister Shean," was a popular hit in the early 1920s with its oft-imitated refrain, "Positively, Mister Gallagher? Absolutely, Mister Shean!" It was Al Shean who first secured Vaudeville roles for his nephews.
Groucho's son with first wife Ruth Johnson, Arthur Marx, was a writer and producer. Arthur's lengthy credits include 1982's Groucho and the 2001 TV movie Groucho: A Life in Revue. Ruth appeared in the 1937 short film Sunday Night at the Trocadero. Arthur's son Andy Marx is a movie publicist.
Groucho's second wife, Kay Marvis, has small parts in films like Kid Dynamite (1943) and Block Busters (1944). Their daughter, actress Melinda Marx, first appeared onscreen as a child in 1957's The Story of Mankind. That same year, Melinda and her friend Candice Bergen appeared on Groucho's show You Bet Your Life as contestants. Melinda also had roles in Bye Bye Birdie (1963), The Violent Ones (1967), and No Deposit, No Return (1972).
Melinda's daughter with actor/composer Sahn Berti (who also appeared in No Deposit, No Return), Jade Marx-Berti, is an actress (2007's Rails & Ties, 2012's Vendetta and Gone) who is married to Dina Eastwood's brother (making him Clint Eastwood's brother-in-law), Dominic V. Ruiz. Dominic was a set production aid on the set of True Crime, in which Jade had a small role. He also worked as a production assistant for 20 episodes of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2000-2001. In addition, he has worked on special effects for a number of films, including Rails & Ties and True Crime (not to mention several of Clint's movies).
Harpo and Susan Fleming (1932's Million Dollar Legs), an actress from the 1930s-1950s, were the adoptive parents of composer Bill Marx, whose credits include the 1993 TV documentary The Unknown Marx Brothers.
Chico Marx was the father of actress Maxine Marx, who had uncredited roles in Dramatic School (1938), Four Girls in White (1939), and Dancing Co-Ed (1939).
Gummo's grandson Gregg Marx is an actor who played "Tom Hughes" on As the World Turns from 1984-1986. Another grandson, Brett Marx, is also an actor, best known for playing "Jimmy Feldman" in The Bad News Bears movies.
Gummo's granddaughter Laura Guzik is a costume supervisor who has worked on a number of TV and film projects.
In 2012, on an episode of Mrs. Eastwood & Company, Dominic takes Jade to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where her grandfather Groucho's star touches his brother-in-law Clint's star. He tells her this is a sign that they are meant to be together, and then re-proposes to his wife.
