Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas (1984's Romancing the Stone, 1987's Wall Street and Fatal Attraction, 1992's Basic Instinct) is the son of actor Kirk Douglas (1950's The Glass Menagerie, 1954's 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, 1960's Spartacus) and character actress Diana Dill Douglas (1987's Planes, Trains & Automobiles). Kirk's youngest son, Eric Douglas, who tragically overdosed in 2004, was also an actor. His most notable role was in the 1986 comedy The Golden Child. Kirk's other sons are Joel Douglas and Peter Douglas. Joel is a producer whose credits include his brother Michael's films Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile (1985). Peter is a producer/director (1985's Fletch) who produced and acted in 1980's The Final Countdown, which starred his father. Michael is the father of actor Cameron Douglas (2005's National Lampoon's Adam and Eve, 2008's Loaded). Michael, Kirk, Diana, and Cameron all starred together in the 2003 film It Runs in the Family.

In August 2009, 30-year-old Cameron was arrested on drug charges in Manhattan at the Hotel Gansevoort. On January 27, 2010, he pled guilty to drug dealing and heroin possession.  He admitted in court that he had been dealing since 2006, a year before he was arrested in Los Angeles for cocaine possession.  He beat that earlier rap, but on April 20, 2010, he was sentenced to five years in prison. He could have received up to ten years.  Perhaps the judge was partially swayed by Michael Douglas's plea on his son's behalf.  The elder Douglas cited the difficulty of Cameron's childhood during his parents' "difficult marriage" and "the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father."
